Dear Community,

As the provincial representative for North Vancouver-Lonsdale and a member of a community that includes many Iranian-Canadians on the North Shore, my heart joins all those who are deeply concerned for their friends and family home in Iran as a result of US President Trump’s recent decision to withdraw from the Iran Nuclear Deal (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The threat of sanctions and war is no small matter. It is my opinion that the Federal Government must recognize the importance of the Iranian Canadian community to Canada and do whatever it can to support our Iranian Canadian communities and their loved ones at home in Iran. Canada must continue to reaffirm its commitment to the Iran Nuclear Deal, refrain from taking actions that further undermine the agreement, and do what it can to stabilize this delicate and volatile geopolitical situation.

I encourage all those concerned to express their opinion on this to their elected Federal Representative (their MP). You can find your MP by entering your postal code here.

For those who would be more comfortable contacting me instead, I invite you to do so. At the end of May I will compile your concerns and feedback (with or without your personal information, as you prefer) and send it on your behalf to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. I can be reached at Bowinn.Ma.MLA@leg.bc.ca or 604-981-0033. Your privacy is respected and protected at all times when you contact my office.

Please stay strong, my friends. I know how worried and upset many of you must be. Know that you are loved, appreciated, and welcome here. Let not the actions of President Trump wane your faith in us here in Canada.

In your service,

Bowinn Ma
MLA for North Vancouver-Lonsdale
