We’re taking action to reduce wait times, improve access to primary care and cancer treatments, and transforming seniors care while leading BC’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. While many improvements have already been made, there is still much more to do.
In addition to hiring 800 new family doctors and adding thousands of nurses to our public health system, we’re also building a new medical school to train thousands more. We are also continuing record construction of new hospitals and urgent care clinics. Some of the improvements we’ve seen on the North Shore include:
- New 108-bed acute care tower at Lions Gate Hospital (construction nearing completion).
- New Addictions Recovery Community Centre.
- New Urgent and Primary Care Centre.
- New state-of-the-art CT scanner.
- New 12-room High Acuity Unit at Lions Gate Hospital.
- New Psychiatric Emergency Assessment and Treatment (PEAT) area at Lions Gate Hospital.
- New in-house protection officers to support health care workers in dealing with potentially violent situations.
- Established three networks of team-based primary care providers for the North Shore.
- Rehired hundreds of local health care support workers across the North Shore following decades of privatization that resulted in job insecurity, low wages, lost benefits, and poor outcomes for patients.
More and more residents of North Vancouver are being attached to a primary health care professional every week. Please visit the Health Connect Registry if you do not currently have a family doctor or family nurse practitioner.
